NZ GOVERNMENT OFFICIAL WAR FILM NO. 2 "SONS OF THE EMPIRE." Those wlio see ''Sons of the Empire at the Empire Theatre next Wednesday and Thursday will have the double satisfaction of witnessing an exceptionally line series of war pictures, of a most comprehensive type, and of assisting a deserving .patriotic cause. The pictures are being shown by the Y.M.C.A. throughout the Dominion and the whole of the net proceeds will be- utilised under the directii- of the Hoi:. W. Russell, to provide comforts for men in the lighting services—those in..the. trenches and in camp, and also those who'' have been wounded or who are convalescent either here or abroad The films display in great detail the sort of life .which is the lot of millions of the best men of the Empire, men who. as to the great majority, have found themselvev suddenly., converted from careers of the, utmost pc-acefuliiess into tlwit of, the 'warrior, and who have embraced their new career with that extraordinary cheerfulness which is one of the wonderful things about the military life. Army operations 011 a large : scale and in great variety are vividly pictured; and the films also carry the spectators to sea anion,? the greater and lesser units of the.fleet, and besides that, raise them far above the earth to look down through the camera's eye upon a broad expanse of shell-pitted country and glimpses of the devastation of.war The programme is along oiie and every foot of the film is crowded with interest which rises at tim«s to thrilling intensity. On the samoprogramme there is the twelfth episod'i>' of the popular serial, 'The Iron Claw." MATINEE AT THE EMPIRE TO-DAY. "PEGGY. WILL 0' THE WISP." The charming Metro star. Mabel Taliaferro will appear at 'both matinee and evening sessions at the Empire to-day in the bright and sparkling photoplay, "Peggy, Will 0' fhe Wisp." This is one of the most pleasing pictures shown for many weeks and will surely interest and; entertain any class of amusement seek-' er. The supporting pictures are excellent including an Australian Gazette and the Rex Beach travel pictures. COMING MONDAY. OLIVE THOMAS IN "AN EYKN JiIIEAK." The star of the Midnight Follies, "Miss New York," is Olive Thomas, and on top of her success in her first film, "Madcap Madge," comes the picture play which has set *ll America talking, "An Even Break."
