I ATTEMPTED MURDER. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Vi'augnnui. 'Jan. 23. Catherine Milne. aged 'JS, pleaded gitilty in the Magistrate'* Court to-day to a charge of the attempted murder of Kiilelis May Barron, aged. 3J years, and suicide. Evidence showed that accused dissolved antiseptic pills and administered the solution to the girl, and then took soiue herself. She then gave, the alarm, assistance was quickly at hand, and both recovered. Accused was committed to ths Supreme Court for sentence. BREACH OF FOOD REGULATIONS. Wellington, Jan. 23 In the .Magistrate'!! Court to-day a grocer was charged under the Sale of Food and Drugs Regulatiosn with selling goods by weight without having plainly marked on the package t'he net weight and contents and the manufacturer's name. Defendant had purchased honey in hulk and ran it off into carton packages to save time iR B weighing. The magistrate, Mr ..fiCarihy, 4.*ld that the package was a sealed one ; awl came within the regulation?.. A fine of £5 was inflicted, and notice pf appeal given. GISBORNE HOTEL BURNED. . One, named Campbell, suffered from severe burns DAIRY FACTORY FATALITY. , Palmerston, If., Jan. k!f>. A youth r.amed Robertson was killed at the dairy factory at Glen Oroua this morning. He became entangled in some shafting, and was carried up to the ceiling, which he struck with considerable force. When picked up his neck was broken He had been employed only three days. FRUIT EXPORT TRADE Wellington, Jan 2." A deputation of fruit-growers waited on the Prime Minister to-day with reference to obtaining facilities for the export of apples. The deputation stated that the crop was looking particularly well, better than for the past three years, and it was expected there would be a surplus for export if shipping space was provided. Mr. Massey said he would communicate with the Imperial authorities, and ascertain if there was a possibility of making arrangements for the surplus to be forwarded to the English market ot any other available. Regarding the question oi .iicreascd railway freights, the Premier said the Minister of Railways was indisposed, but when he was about he would confer with him on the subject.
