Inglewood, Jan. 23. A DISHONORED CHEQUE Tlip attention of Mr. A. Crooke, S.M.. was occupied for a considerable period to-day in hearing a claim for £23 Is 4d by J. Sutherland, land agent, against. W. L. Carey, farmer. Mr. Pat arson appeared for plaintiir and Mr. Billing for defendant. Defendant, in hi« evidence, said lie fool; possession of a farm at Tarata in mis. He bought from Frank Street, and tiad arranged to take a quantity of implements, manures, etc., at a price agreed between Street and witness in Slither land's office. He had been to the farm previous to taking possesion, but had not seen all the chattels. In consequence of their condition he stopped payment of! the cheque. Fred L. Street, Egmnnt Village, re- { membered making an exchange with defendant in ,1915. One of the cheques made out in connection with the deal was with regard to chattels. This was for plough, manures, etc. The trans- 1 action was made with Mr. Sutherland, and hii reason for leaving the cheques to be drawn by Mr. Sutherland was that he owed Sutherland some money in eon- j nection with hi 4 store account and might be_<roing away. Sutherland and Carey were with him when the cheque* (postdated) were made out. Carey had inspected the farm on two or three occasions prior to the agreement being drawn up. When he left the farm he locked up everything possible in the house and shed. The mawl and wedges he left at the back of the bush. Tho jack was in good ordet, and had been in use three years. Judgment was given for amount claimed, with costs £2 1 g and solicitors' expenses £3 13s. FAST MOTORINtj. Sydney Re! wood, of Eltham, was charged with driving a motor ear through Matai Street, Inglowood, at a greater speed than 10 miles per iiour, and was fined £2 and costs 7e. .DEBT CASES. Judgment was given for plaintiffs in the case P. W. Buckhought (Mr. F. Wilson) v. G. Bennett, claim £2 9s and costs 18s; W. H. Rudkis, Tarlki, storekeeper (Mr. Billing) v. A. Strong, Te Atatu, £2 14s 7d, costs 15s; H. F. Mey, Tariki, v. <T. Heal, Kaupokonui, £7 13s 2d, costs 10s. A claim by Matthews, Oannltn, and Co. (Mr. F. Wilson) v. W. L. Carey, £1 Is, balance owing on valuation report, was partially heard and the case adjourned for a month.
