BONUS TO MUNITIONERS.

EXCEPT IN IRON AND STEEL TRADES. Received Jan. 24, 11.30 p.m. London, Jan. 23. The Press Bureau reports that the War Cabinet has decided from January 1 to pay a bonus of 7i per cent, to all piece workers engaged in munition work, except in the iron and steel trades, provided any bonus or war advance, which in the case of time workers is merged in their recent grant, of 12J per cent., shall also merge in the present bonus for pieceworkers. A special conference is being called of employer* and employees in the iron and steel trades to consider tlio form this bonus shall be applied regarding the self lenient in these trades of 121- per cent, bonus. The Daily Mail says that the authorities have decided to promote officers of the new army to highei" commands shortly, beginning by creating a number of Brigadier-Generals. PROPORTIONAL REPRESENTATION. Loadon, Jan. 23. The House of Lords carried, by 13-2 votes to 42, an amendment to the Representation of the People Bill providing for proportional representation on the basis that each elector should have one transferable vote in constituencies returning three to five members.
