A WORKERS' PROTEST.
10 HOURS' WORK ON BREAD AND JAM. London, Jan. 20. There are instances of workers adopting a threatening tone regarding the food shortage. A number of workmen at Middleaborough abstained from work and sent a deputation to the local food committee. They declared they were working sixteen hours daily on bread and jam. Manchester and the surrounding areas haye agTeed to adopt the ration scheme when the Food Controller i« »'>ic to guarantee supplies. Crowd* at Sheffield besieged the Belgian refugees' horseflesh shops, where large sales were made.
PEACE NEGOTIATIONS. WOOLWICH WORKERS' RESOLUTION. Received Jan. 21, 6.50 p.m. London, Jan. 20. A meeting of two thousand Woolwich workers passed a resolution demanding the Government to enter into peace negotiations with the other belligerents on a no annexation and no indemnity basis, also self-determination of all nations. The meeting pledged itself to co-operate in continuing the war if negotiations disclose that German Imperialists were the only obstacle to peace, but decided to oppose t,he man power proposals if the Government refuses to enter into peace negotiations.
INTEGRITY OF SWITZERLAND. BRITAIN'S POLICY DEFINED. Renter Service. Received Jan. 21, 2.35 p.m. London, Jan. 20. Britain has informed Switzerland that the Government desires to reaffirm the treaties and declarations of 1815, and to assure the Swiss Government that, in conjunction with America and France, they will respect the integrity and neutrality of Switzerland, as long as they we maintained by the, Federal Government and respected by the enemies of Britain. PRICE OF FISH London, Jan. 20. The Food Controller lias fixed maximum retail fish prices.
