On the New Plymouth green yesterday, Inglewood (the challengers) made an attempt to deprive New Plymouth (the holders) of the Taranaki banner, but, were defeated by 28 points, only succeeding in obtaining the major score in one out of the four rinks. A friendly game, on behalf of the patriotic funds, was played yesterday between the above clubs, three links oil the Fitzroy green and two on the town' green. New Plymouth was defeated at all rinks at Fitzroy, but managed to get the best of the game on their own green, which was not in the best of condition. On the aggregate, Fitzroy won by 35 points. Five rinks from Waitara Club, including a colts' rink, met a similar number from the West End Club, on the West' End green yesterday, in a patriotic match. A very enjoyable game resulted, the local team winning rather easily. The West End colts also defeated their opponents. The visitors were hospitably entertained to afternoon tea.
