ANOTHER MISTAKE.
The enquiry at Christchurch, regarding Dr. Thaeker's quarrel with certain medical officers, lgoks like another of the Defence Department's mistakes. If an enquiry of the kind was considered to be necessary, its range should have been wider, and its facilities for investigation should have been greater. • The court seems to have been ,set up in the first instance by the officer commanding the Canterbury district, and the newspaper reports indicate that the proceedings are simply involving the medical service in a mesh of contradictory evidence that presumably will have to be unravelled. Dr. Thacker is not the only man who condemns the Defence Department. He is not even the only member of Parliament who does it, and a verdict in his case will settle nothing.
