X-RAY TREATMENT.
COMPLIMENT TO NEYY 7 PLYMOUTH HOSPITAL. In acknowledging a letter from the Taranaki Hospital Board expressing its willingness to receive returned soldiers belonging to other districts into the New Plymouth Hospital, the Inspector-General of'llospitals (Dr. T. H. A. Valintine) paid a high compliment to the work of the hospital and particularly to the X-ray department. lie asked further that, as the work of that department of the hospital was recognised to be of such a high order, the institution should receive returned soldiers from other districts who required special treatment by X-rays. He said the officers of bis department considered it would be a great boon if soldiers requiring such treatment could be sent to New Plymouth Hospital. ! Dr. Yalintiife's letter hart been placed before the medical superinter.:U».i (Dr. Walker), who, while pointing out the great amount of work at present being compassed hv tt.« medical staff and the nursing staff, said they were all prepared to do whatever lay in th«ir power in the direction suggested. In reference to the matter, Dr. Leatham waited on the Board to ask that authority should be given to augment the present equipment of the X-ray department. He appreciated the references. of the Inspector-General to the wort: being done, but urged that if more work was to he undertaken a higher powered plant should be acquired in order that they might be able to live up to the high opinion the Health Department had formed of their institution. Dr. Leathiim detailed to the Boavd the improvements desired which, he estimated, would not exceed in cost the sum of .CSfl. Several members of the Board spoke In high appreciation of the work done Tit Dr. Leatham in that department of th'r Hospital, and it was unanimously r# solved to give him authority to seciiro the improvements suggested.
