WORK ON EAST COASf RAILWAY RESUMED. V. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, Jan. 12. The Minister for Public Works has advised the Auckland Railways League that the construction of, the WaihiAthenree section of the East Coast railway will lie resumed on Monday. Work wa,s stopped laßt March. In response to the Minister's statement' that labor wa3 not available, the Railway League secured ninety men, and also offered the services of an engineer to superintend the works.

DETAILS OF ESCAPE FROM TRENTHAM. Wellington, Jan. 12. . The Minister of Defence states that one of the four Trentham escapees (not one of the Larkins) has foeen recaptured. It appears that it is not true, as stated at the time, that the sentry was knocked on the head and gagged. It is understood one of the prisoners asked the sentry to allow him time to go outside. To this the sentry consented, and, the man opening the <loor suddenly, the edge of the door caught the sentry a heavy blow on the forehead, knocking him down and rendering him senseless. The opportunity thus afforded was too good to be missed, and the men decamped. The sergeant of the guard will i>e eourt-martialled for not carrying out the camp, standing orders by keeping the door of the hut locked.

GERMANS INTERNED. Wellington, Jan. 12. A well-known indent agent, of Wellington, who traded under the name of Lennard and Co., who is a German by birth, was interned on Somes Island yesterday. A wine and spirit traveller named Zola has also 'been. interned.
