RELIGIOUS OBJECTOR.

Arthur .lohiis, ;i religious objector, who escaped I roin l liu prison at Roto*ire, and was recaptured on Tliiii'adny at Kauriniu, made a second escape last evening. When the gaoler was driving the prisoner in the prison trap from Waimarino station he had to get out and open the gates. Johns saw an opportunity to escape, grabbed the reins and drove for three miles and escaped to the bush. The prisoner was again captured last night and brought to Taumarunui to-dav for trial before justices, when he was sentenced to a further twelve months' imprisonment. Prisoner, who was formerly sentenced to two years, made a statement in court that he was always prepared to do noncombatant work here or in France, but not under military control. He was afraid that under military control he might be called to carry ammunition to kill people, and the Rible 3aid, "Thou 3halt not kill!"
