TARANAKI WORKERS' COUNCIL.
GBXERAL MEETIXjG. < A general meeting of the Taranaki | Workers' Council was hold on Friday evening last. There was considerable i discussion on the question of tl>c txeatO ment meted out to soldiers returning ; from the front. The press report of instances where cot eases arrived at their i destination without any advica apparently being sent l>y those responsible were read. It was further stated that men were coining back from the front to qualify for commissions, and notwithstanding the fact that some of these soldiers were Main Body men they were only allowed three weeks' leave anrf*that without pay or privileges. Kventually the following resolution was unanimously adopted: "That this meeting of the Tarannki Workers' Council emphatically protests against the treatment meted out by those in authority to soldiers returned from the front." In regard to technical education, the following resolutions were carried: That the council supports the proposal that all boys and girls, until they reach the age of 18 years, shall be compelled to receive instruction in the daytime for not less than 8 1 hours per week at continuation classes; that it he nil obligation on all employers of young persons under the ago of IS years to give them the necessary facilities for " attendance at continuation classes for not lcs* than 8 hours per week; and that where there is already n statutory limitation upon the hours of labor, the permitted hours of labor be reduced by the number of hours required for attendance at the continuation classes.
