TRAINING BOYS FOR THE SEA.
ANOTHER VESSEL REQUIRED. By Telegraph.—Press Association. • Auckland, Last Night.- / The request that Auckland should be made the headquarters of the training ship Amokura for a portion of each year was made to the Hon. T. ty. Wilford, by a deputation representing yachtsmen and launch owners. The Minister said he recognised the facilities possessed by Auckland harbor for training purposes, and would give instructions that the Amokura should be stationed at Auckland for a certain number of months each year. Mr. Wilford remarked that far more applications for admission to the Amokura than could be dealt with were received from New Zealand youths desirous of following the seafaring life. The Government recognised the necessity for providing more adequate facilities, but the question was one of finance. The Marine Department was on the lookout for a large modern vessel, suitable for training purposes, but a vessel of the tpye required would be very expensive at present.
