FINLAND'S PROPOSED REPUBLIC.
RECOGNITION REFUSED. United Service. Reecived Jan. 6, 5.5 p.m. 4 Helsingfors, Jan. I, Finland's efforts to secure recognition of the republic have failed owing to the Senate's unwillingness to negotiate with Lenin. The Powers replied that Finland must first obtain Russia's approval. A terrible explosion. 2000 COSSACKS KILLED. London, Jan. 4. A Haparamla telegram states that a horrible disaster occurred on Christmas Eve, when an explosion at a Russian" station destroyed two trains crowded with Cossacks, 2000 being killed. The buildings within two kilometres were wrecked, and the entire munitions at the depot for the south-western front were blown up. RED GUARD SENT TO FINLAND. Copenhagen, Jan. 4. The Red Guard, which has been mobilising at Petrograd, has been ordered to proceed to Finland, whither 5000 have already been sent. A BASELESS REPORT. Router Service.
