THE INCREASED FREIGHTS.
OOOD St'PPI.Y OF SHIPS FOR JANI'ARY. By Telegraph.—Press Association Wellington, Last Night. Mr Massey has communicated with the Imperial Government, asking that increased freights should not apply to commodii 'u>s in store awaiting Khipment prior tu New Year, that is, that reasonsvhlo notice should be given before the increases come into operation. The supply of ships during the month promised to ,be particularly good. He believed the amount of produce shipped within a month would constitute a record.
EFFECT ON FLAX MILLERS. Auckland, Last Night, Discus'-in > the increase in freights, the Auckland Kitu Millers' Association passed a resolution proposing that as millera and shippers ai. the conference in September accepted the prices for hemp and tow suggested by the imperial authorities, the freights fdiould remain at the previous rate or a corresponding increase in prices should be allowed. A deputation from the association interviewed the Hon. A. M. Myers. The acting-chairman said that, prior to the September meeting, the millers were receiving £6O per ton for fair average hemp. They had accepted .-C44, and now were fuced with a reduction, owing to the new freights, to about £35. They had made contracts to purchase green flax, and unleae some relief was afforded they would be unable to fulfil their obligations, and mills would be (dosed, affecting between 8000 and 0000 employees and dependents.
