COMMERCIAL.
HIGH COMMISSIONER'S REPORT. The Department of Agriculture, Industrios, and Commerce has received the following cablegram, dated London, December 2!), 1917, from the High Commissioner for New Zealand. (Note.—Quotations, unless otherwise specified, are average market prices en spot):— Meat.—Home-killed mutton and beef selling at maximum prices. Home-killed beef, maximum price has advanced to 12Jd owing to the scarcity of all descriptions of meat. Small supplie-s of New Zealand lamb released for Christmas trade by order of the Government. Argentine beef, small supplies, chilled hindquarters Hid, foreqnarters fMd, Argentine frozen ox beef, first quality in fair supply; hinds liy = d, fores 9W.' Following maximum wholesale prices have been fixed for imported offal, beef livers, tongues, tails, hearts, kidneys, boneless beef—fld, lid, KM. BJd, MJd, 12% d per Hi respectively. Sheep kidneys, hearts, lamb hearts, is !)d, 3s 9d, 3s 3d per dozen. Sheep tongues, lamb tongues, sweetbreads—lod. (mutilated word here), lod per lb.
Butter.—There is no material change .in the market, practically no supplies being available. Trade awaiting further Government distribution of butter and cheese, whidi are expected shortly. Cheese.—Stocks are fair. 'Dutch: Moderate supply coming forward; others extremely scarce. All at Government prices.
Hemp—Manila and New Zealand: There is very little doing this week on account of holidays. No change to report.
Wheat.—Market is quiet at official quotations.
Oats.—Market is steady, with a moder ate inquiry.
