VITAL STATISTICS.

NEW PLYMOUTH DISTRICT. The vital statistics for the New Plymouth district during the month and year just ended have been compiled by the registrar (Mr. J. S. S. Medley). The number of births registered during the year 1017 was 430, this being 29 above that for 1911), and a record for the district. The complete returns arc. Month of December (1916 figures being in parentheses): Births, 42 (31); deaths, 17 (12); marriages, 8 (8). For the year (1916 figures in parentheses): Births, 430, a record (401); deaths, 103 (106); marriages, !>1 (103). The number of marriages performed in the registrar's office during 1017 whs 21, as compared with 10 .in 1916. The, average age of men who married during the year was 31 years. The deaths of 23 persons over the age of 80 years were registered during 1917.
