Mr. Sliepley's items on the concertina bpin;r most acceptable to Hie audience, who were aareeably surprised at the melody concealed in this in-trnmcnt. The other soloists were in excellent form, and if is safe to say (hat this was easily one of the iies't musical entertainments submitted to a I; ratforj audience. l)urin»' the evening Mr. 1) .1. Malonc, chairman of the band committee of the Horoimh Council, thanked the public for their patronage, and also expressed appreciation of the progress made by the band since, the new 'candmasler, Mr. L. Spnrdle. had taken up his position. This was a popular statement and crcaied much applause. The dance that followed was aiso well supi'orted, Hie music for wMch was-sup-plird by Messrs Shcplev (cornet! and Kox (piano). The latter also tilled (he position of accompanist to tlie entertainment, his assistance in this respect being of ureat service to the vocalists.
The Town Band made a presentation of a, wristlet watch to bandsman P. Simmons, now up on final leave. The pre-i utatinn was inane by the bandmaster. Mr. L. Spurdle, who expressed ihe band's appreciation of youn«- Simmons' services as a. member, ami trusted lie would safely return in due course and renew his acquaintance with the band.
