ENTERTAINMENTS.

A GREAT MATINEE PROGRAMME AT THE EMPIRE TO-DAY, HEADED BY "CACTUS NELL" The Empire theatre management are screening a. special matinee programme at i p.m. this afternoon that will give the keenest enjoyment to all ages of the kiddies. The selection is mainly comedy pictures, and they are some of the funniest ever seen. Firstly there is the tworeeLKeyatone scream ''Cactus Nell" that cofKulsed the audience at Everybody's on Boxing night and again had the same effect when screened last evening. It is undoubtedly one of the cleverest and most laughable pictures ever seen on the screen in this or any other town. Then there is a Charlie Chaplin comedy, 'The Face on the Bar-Room Floor," which ranks high as a laugh-producer, and the Christy comedy, "Skirts," another really tunny picture. The other pictures on the matinee programme will lie, the "Rex Beach Travel Series," "The Secret of the Submarine" (twelfth episode) and the "Co-operative weekly" which give some good views of the American "Tanks." To-night—olga petrova in "the •SECRET OF EVE." To-night will be the final appearance of Olga Petrova in the successful Metro feature, "The Secret of Eve." This fine picture has drawn big attendances on both previous nights of showing and as it 19 one of Mme. Petrova's finest subjects there is sure to be a rush for seats this evening. Intending patrons can reserve seats at Collier's at the usual dress circle prices ETHEL CLAYTON AT EVERYBODY'S. "THE STOLEN PARADISE." Ethel Clayton makes a triumphant return to the screen in the powerful World film drama, "The Stolen Paradise," screening at Everybody's this afternoon ,and to-night. The plot is strong and' ingeniously constructed, and full of intense dramatic momenta. The hero (Edward Langford loses his sight rescuing a mercenary beauty whom he adores. She cannot be bothered with him in his state and persuades Joan to impersonate her and marry him. Thus the paradise is stolen, for Joan has loved him for what seems a lifetime. Then his sight is restored, and once more he comes in contact with the tiirt who had jilted him. Ethel Clayton is really great in every moment of her role, and it is one of her very best portrayals of intense emotio-n. I'ina Nesbit as the pretty and worthless. Katharine does good work, and the whole of the supporting cast is strong. The setting is lavish, most of the scenes taking place in the society circles of New York, and the photography i s unique. The eighth episode of the "Tron Claw" "utitled "At the Stroke of Twelve" and a Topical Budget is included in the supporting pictures.
