SENSATIONAL ROBBERY.
A SAFE BLOWS; OPEN. By Telegraph.—Press Association Taumarunui, Yesterday. A sensational robbery occurred athalf- ' pa&t three on Christmas morning. The premises of Frankland and Hart, butchers, opposite the railway station, werei entered, and the office safe blown open« |by an explosive. About £275 worthof* jewellery was stolen. It was the property of William Wallen, Jeweller, who had lodged it there for safe keeping over the holidays. Fortunately, Frankland and 'Hart's cash takings, running into nearly £3OO, were lodged elsewhere. The safe was moved two yards Before the charge was inserted, 'suggesting that m<ir« than one was concerned, in Che robbery. The sound of the explosion was heard by the railway staff, aAo thought it ft'as a'gunshot. Inspector Sheekan, of Hamilton, and the local police authorities have the matter in hand.
