OLGA PETROVA AT THE EMPIRE. •THE SECRET OF EVE." A MOTION PICTURE TRIUMPH. 'What was the secret of the first woman?" This all-important question is answered in the Metro-Popular Plays and Players production, "The Secret of Eve." which was screened for the first time to a crowded house at the Empire last night, with < the gifted Sitae. Petrova fl9 the star. ''The Secret of Eve'' shows how in every period of the world's history, men and women have occupied their minds with the fevered pursuit after selfish happiness, and the secret Eve Brandon discovers is—what? See the play and find the answer. "The Secret of Eve" is a vital, absorbing photoplay, full of dramatic incident. Added to this it has true spiritual uplift. Mme. Petrova has never been called upon to do a more difficult piece of work than in this production. First of all, she portrays Eve in the Garden of Eden. Then she is seen as Hagar, a gypsy womaa, who leaves her baby daughter on the doorstep of "house-dwelling" people so that siie may have a. chance for happiness. Next the girl, Eve, is shown as a young woman, the foster-child of Quakers, who marries a millionaire, and as Eve Brandon goes to the city, still in pursuit of happiness. The final picture is of the noble-minded woman who has found perfect joy in giving her life to the service of little children. "The Secret of Eve" with full supporting programme will again be screened to-night. WILLIAM FARNUM AT EVERYBODY'S. , LAST NIGHT OF "THE PRICE OF SILENCE." ' There was again a packed houses at Everybody's last evening when William Farnum starred in the powerful Fox photoplay "The Price of Silence." This picture is a strong economic study of the conditions attaching to child slavery in the 'humming hives of industry in America. Incidentally it embodies a very human love story and shows how ft man's love for a good woman will make him superior to all tlie temptations for the acquirement of ill-gotten riches. Th*e are many tense situations as the story unfolds, and it is a graphic pictorial presentment of. a chapter of life in the multi-colored existence of the Big Continent. The supports include a Topical Gazette which deals in an interesting manner with the trial under war conditions of the American "war tank." Patrons are reminded that to-night will be t!he final screening of this programme.
