TROUBLE WITH FIREMEN.
MAPOURIKA HELD UP. Wellington, Yesterday. Owing to her not being able to secure her complement of firemen, the Mapourika was not able to sail for Nelson and West Coast on Christmas Day. The vessel was set down to sail at noon on Wednesday, but as bo fireman could be got to sign on, the crew were paid up yesterday, and the boat will lay up in the meantime.
, It appears that there are plenty of firemen who could be secured but for their disinclination to work the Mapourika. Officials of the Union Company can.give no reason for the action of the men. The only feasible reason is that the firemen wished to fill in the Christmas holidays in a more congenial fashion than feeding the ship's furnace. No arrangements have been made as to taking up the Mapourika's running.
