THE CONSCRIPTION POLL. fc T 0 (DEVELOPMENTS. M3R. RYAN ON THE RESULT. Received Dec. 26, 7 pan. Melbourne, Dec. 26. A meeting of the Federal Cabinet will be held on Thursday to discuss the situation. No developments in the position are expected before tibe result of the referendum is definitely known.
Brisbane, Dec. 26. Mr. Ryan holds that the result of the referendum implies no lessening' of Australia's zeal for the honor anil safety of the iEmpire, or any intention to relax the magnificent effort to doiier share in the great struggle for civilisation, justice, and freedom. A MINISTER'S FORECAST. "NO" MAJORITY 100,000. Received Dee. 26, 8.30 p.m. Melbourne, 'Dec. 2fi. It is understood the first batch of soldiers' votes, representing 70,000, is substantially in favor of tbe Government proposals. The figures are not available, but one Minister forecasts tie final "No" majority at about 100,000. SOLDIERS' VOTES A SURPRISE. Received Dee. 27, 1.40 a.m. Sydney, Dec. 26. Contrary to expectations, the first batch of soldiers' votes reveal a'majority against conscription, being: "¥ts" 17,435 and "No" 23,700, thus increasing the "No" lead to 180,453.
