DISTRICT NEWS.
MANGOREI. (From A Correspondent). A most successful ftreaking-up ceremony was held in the Upper Mangorel school last week. The school, which was decorated in the form of a rose bower, was packed by friends and parents ol children. Mr. (Pearce (chairman of the committee) presided. The programme was varied, land consisted chiefly of patriotic and action songs by the pupils, assisted by local talent. The items were much appreciated, the children showing careful training and being a credit to the teacher, Miss White and Mrs. Simpson (pianist). Mr. Hardwidge, dressed as "Father Christmas," then took charge, bringing in a bag full of presents, one to each child in the district. The chairman, in making a presentation to Miss D. Brown of a trinket box, said the parents felt they could not let the occasion go by without giving her a small token to show their appreciation of the gtood work done by her while acting 19 relieving teacher. Cheers were then given for King and country and the brave boys at the front, followed by a good old time Christmas tree and supper.
