THE TRAMWAYS.
SuAST WEEK'S FIGURES. The figures showing the tramway returns for last week again indicate nn increased traffic on that of the previous week. It is scarcely fair, however, to compare them with the corresponding week of last year, because that period included the Christmas Eve traffic. The figures for 1916 were: Passengers, 30,222; revenue,. £215 13s 3d. The amount of revenue received on Monday totalled £55 13s lid, but the number of passengers carried had not been calculated. The revenue for last Christmas Eve was £OO 4a 7d, and the passengers 8530, though it must be remembered that as Christmas Eve fell on a Saturday, that no donbt favorably affected last year's returns. following are the figures for last week: Passengers. Revenue. £ s. d. Monday (Dec. 17) ... 3275 23 15 5 Tuesday 3223 22 3 4 I Wednesday 354(1 24 14 4 Thursday 3540 24 7 0 Friday 4250 23 15 0 Saturday 5962 40 10 2 Sunday 2513 19* 4 9 20,315 £lB4 10 !)
