"YE OF THE FROZEN FEET."

Writes "Patriot" to the Masterton Times:—

I see that the gallant "standback" slaughtermen and shearers from Australia are to be welcomed. It is astonishing to see what these brave men will face. They will come two thousand miles to kill the most savage cow or sheep. We could cut down expenses by bringing them across in the same ship as some, of our returned men, with whom they would feel at home as brother ".patriots."' This is surely a subject for songs of welcome and bunting. Might I suggest— Haeremai'! ye of the "frozen feet," Tome 'bravely and handle our frozen meat, The widow and orphan cannot compete, And even our Maori fights. Come all that fear to face tlie guns, Ye foes of the King and friends of the Huns, And use your steel till the red 'blood runs From the tame sheep's liver and "lights." Come, ye, and shear the savage sheep, And bravely your hands in the cow's blood steep, While the soldiers' widows and orphans weep For the manhood of "God's Own ■Land." Come at the call of the Hon. Clap-Trap, And help us our country's iblood to sap, Te eringing cur that waits to snap The crust from the baby's hand.
