COLD STORAGE.

NO RESTRICTIONS ON SLAUGHTER OF STOCK. From Our Own Correspondent. Wellington, Dec. 21.. During the last twelve months additional storage for nearly a million carcases has been provided at the New Zealand freezing works. Some of the extensions are still proceeding. The necessary machinery and plant were available in many eases, and it was only the storage space that had to be provided. The Government too'k power during the present session of Parliament to make advances to companies for the purpose of providing increased storage, and various applications for aid of this kind have been given favorable consideration during the last two months. This increase in the storage accommodation was the chief factor in making it possible for the. Prime Minister to announce this evening that the Government had decided not to impose any special restrictions on the slaughter of stock for freezing. Mr. Massey emphasises the desirability of putting into the works only finished animals, in order that space may be conserved and the standard maintained, but he believes that killing can proceed normally during the remainder of the season. What quantity of the meat will remain in the store's at the close of the scasoii remains to be seen.
