BOWLING.

The Jnglewood Club had full rinks at the green on Thursday afternoon. In the pairs handicap, McLaggan and Coldwell proved too strong for R. Davis and J. Drake. In the single championship F. Spurdle beat A. Johnston; J. Drake beat G. Morton; A. Leslie beat J. Wilson. The bout between Leslie and Wilson was worthy of attention. At the 19th head Wilson was 18 and Leslie 11. The next head saw Leslie score 4, and at the 20th head Leslie lay 3, making the score 18 all. An extra head had to be played' to decide the game, and Leslie scoring a single won the bout with the figures 10—IS. In the Leslie bowls, J. Allen, G. Morton, Wilson and F. Spurdle challenged J. Drake, A. Lile, A. Leslie, A. Coldwell. At the. 20th head Coldwell was three down, but pulled these up at I the lust head. The holders of the patriotic buttons—R. Pyne and A. Coldwell —were at home this week to a challenge, by J. Wilson and H. Hertzog, Coldwell winning with the last bowl, which was sent down at 8 p.m., the score finishing 1!) IS. J. Allen and G. Pullen challenged the holders, but Coldwell was again capable of holding off the challengers, scoring a rather easy win, and now are,awaiting further engagements. One rnik will represent the club at the Wangamvi tournament, leaving on Wednesday. The players making the trip are W. Lightfoot, G. Morton, J. Wilson and F. Spurdle. The rink to represent the club at New Plymouth at - the New Year's Day tournament is G. McLaggan, J. Allen, A. Coldwell and R. Branch. Other rinks may make the journey. At Stratford yesterday the North v. South game ended in a rather easy win for the Southerners, the score being 100 in their favor against 85 scored by the north end of the town.
