WESTERN ATTACK.
FRONT LINE BOMBARDED. REPEATED ATTACKS REPULSED. ■Received Dec. 21, 12.20 a.m. Paris, Dec. 20. A French communique states: The enemy artillery bombarded the front line north of Javineourt, Argonne and Fourdeparts. Our guns effectively replied. Repeated attempts to reaeli our positions at Fourdcparl s were repulsed. The enemy dropped fifty bombs on ! Dunkirk on the night of the 18th. The United Press correspondent at the front states that seldom lias it been quieter. The country is entirely icebound, and the snow is a foot deep. Occasional outpost affairs take place, but sniping never ceases. The airmen carry on regardless of the weather. Whatever may be the reason for the present lull, the Tommies appreciate their well earned rest after continual lighting' since April 0. INTENSE ARTILLERY DULu London, Dec. 10. Sir Douglas Haig reports: We repulsed raiders" southward of Fontaine les 'Croisilles. The hostile artillery was active eastward of Bullecout, between Lens and Amentieres, and eastward and northward of Ypres. Our aeroplanes on Monday bombed an aerodrome near Courtrai, Roulers station and aerodrome, and the Lcdeghm and Menin stations. A French communique- reports: There is a somewhat intense artillery duel on the right bank of the Meuso, especially in the region of Caurieres Wood and Bezonvaux.
