WHANGAMOMOA COUNTY COUNCIL.

The monthly meeting was held on Tuesday. Present: Crs. W. A. McCutchan (in the ehnir), M. Geever, H. McLeod, V. IT. Nolan, T. Rentoul, D. M. Fitcaitliley, C. R. Finncrty, and N. R. Clcland.

The engineer (£. C. Robinson) reported a* follows: Kohi Road Saddle: Certain urgent work has been done.on this length during the month. Putikituna Road Bridges: Tenders on a schedule basis have been invited for these, and the extra timber required by the department will be procured as soon as possible. Tahmmroa Road Suspension Bridge: 1 interviewed the resident engineer re this matter, and was informed that it is not intended to hand the bridge over to the council when the eontemplatod repairs have been completed Grader: I have as yet been unable to abtain a suitable team for this work, but hope to do so early in the new year Lower Road: The piece which has in the past been gravelled has stood fairly well and has been of great benefit. A further 15 chains would be required to cover the remaining bad places, and the requisite quantity of gravel is available, though considerable stripping would be necessary. General: During the mohth I examined the road over the saddle between Pohokura and Whangamomona carefully, and find that the original culverts, which have now been in some 20 or 25 years, are nearly all in a state of unsoundness. It will be necessary during the next financial year to make provision for the renewal of t.hega.

The report was adopted. The chairman was given power to continue the work of the grader in the event of £BO being insufficient and if the fin-anees warrant the expenditure. Settlers in the Marangae block are tn he notified that the council regrets being unable to entertain the suggestion re metalling lower Kolmratahi road during the present financial year. Tn response to a deputation of Marco road settlers it was resolved that Foreman Pope be instructed to work continuously for a fortnight, or longer if possible, on this road. The question of expenditure of Marco road thirds was reviewed, and a motion was carried instructing Cr. Cleland to discuss the matter with the Land Board, and in the event of it being illegal to use any portion of thirds in maintenance, the total accrued thirds be used for construction of a dray road eastward from the Government road towards the Bank of NewZealand bend. The position of clerk and treasurer is to be offered to Mr. E. C. Robinson, the office to be open from 9 to 4 each Wednesday and the council to meet on the fourth Thursday in each monlh.—Tn this connection it should be stated that, Mr. Coleman, the present clerk, desired to he relieved of office some time ago, owing to pressure of other work, and consented to retain office till the end of January. A tender was accepted re Putikitnnn road bridge, provided the work is commenced within a month, and a tender was also accepted for repairs to the Kohi road. y Application is to be made for £2OO on the security of the Strathmore riding bridge loan fund for bridge on upper Mangaehu road. The next meeting will be held on Thursday, January 24, I-flfS.

Accounts totalling : £247 were passed for payment and the council adjourned.
