INGLEWOOD.
(From Our Own Correspondent). The local bowlers journeyed to Waitara on Thursdav and proved victorious by flfi to 77. The Town Hall was fairly well filled on Thursday evening for the New Plymouth Male Choir's grand patriotic coilcert. That an enjoyable night's entertainment was in store for music lovers was never doubted, and their anticipation was fully realised. The part singing tlftoughout was excellent, and the conducter (Mr. Mcleod) is. deserving of congratulation on bringing the choir to a high standard of proficiency ill such a short time. The rendering of each item showed that the greatest attention had been paid to detail, and the work generally left nothing to be desired. The soloists, Mrs. Wilkes and Messrs X, Day and L. Webber, were all in excellent voice, and showed considerable judgment in the selection of their songs. In each rase a double encore was demanded and readily given. In each case also the part songs had to be repeated. Mr. Sturrock was the accompanist, which is sufficient guarantee that the work in this "department was of the highest order. Following is the programme: Part son'*, '•Comrades, We March,", choir; quartette, "In Absence,'' Messrs Hooker, Reid, N. Day and R. MaclJonald (encore "The Story of a Tack"); part song. "To the Stars," choir; song. "Valley of Laughter." Mrs. Wilkes (encore '"Yo San"); part song, "Alexander," choir; song, "Pagan," Mr. Webber (encore, "Ka Mala"; part song, 'Comrades in Arms'": part song, "The, Voice of the Torrent." choir; song, "The River of Years," Mr. N. Dav (encores "Tattle Mary Fawcett" and "Summer Rain"); part song, "To the Death," choir; recitation, Mr. Goldswbrthy; part song. "Banks of Allen Water," choir: song, "Mountain Lovers," Mrs. Wilkes (encores "Wake up" and "[ Sometimes Wonder"); hymn "Lead Kindly Light" and "Abide With Me" (bracketed). The item was one of the gems of the programme. The choir hummed a verse after which Mr. Hooker sang a verse accompanied by the choir humming, then the whole choir sang a verse. The effect was very fine indeed. The National Anthem then brought a very enjoyable evening to a close. Tils Worship the Mayor proposed a vote of thanks to the choir and also to the car owners who had so willingly offered the use of their cars free of charge to drive the performers out. Mr. McLeod suitably replied. After the performance the ladies provided supper for the visitors.
