CHETWODE SCHOOL.

"p- 1 The brcaking-up ceremony in conncction with the Chetwode School took place o;> Wednesday afternoon. An interesting programme of vocal and spectacular items was-given by the pupils, at the conclusion of which afternoon tea was served by the girls. In her report, Miss Stanford, the principal, said the health of the girls had been" particularly good, and that tlieir progress morally, mentally and physically had been very satisfactory. Throughout the year the girls had keenly drme whatever patriotic work had been asked of them, while knitting still went on in between times. Many of thp girls went in for their first aid certificates of the St. John Ambulance, and nil were successful in passing. Swimming had been enthusiastically taken up, especially the ■work of the Royal Life-saving Society, which was both useful and necessary. Among other organised sports the girls played hockey, trnnia, basket-ball and rounders. Bishop Averill, during his recent visit to Taranaki, visited Chetwode and gave the girls a very interesting address. In school work the girls had done a steady and profitable year's work, and when, in accordance with the Education Board's requirements, the senior inspector examined the school, he gave an excellent report. Miss Stanford extended her hearty thanks to those who had donated special prizes, and also to Dr. Wade for judging the swinging clubs, land drill, and life-saving, Mrs". Hirst for judging the junior drill, ind Mesdames Harvie and Bradbury for judging the needlework. Thanks were also due to the staff for their unselfish and untiring devotion to their work, and to all parents for their courtesy and consideration. A short address was given by Mr. Bradbury, who spoke of the musical achievements of the pupils of Chetwode. The Rev. F. S. Harvie also gave an address to the girls on the subject of "Service," after Which he presented the prizes as follows: Scripture.—Senior, I. Dent; middle, ' E. Blundcll. English.—Senior, Z.
