BAND CARNIVAL.
MEETING OF GENERAL'COMMIJTP A meeting of the general cammlttei in connection with the Citizen*' BlTO'l Cnrnival, to bo held at Pukokitfa Park on Thursday, December 27, wm I|»ld Ift»t night. Mr. S. G. Smith (chairman) pro; sided, and there were present: MeWi P. W. G. MeLeod, G. W. Browne, ft Cattley, J. Moverley, 8. Brook*, B, Sob), B. L. Mcllroy, Bennoch, W, C, Weston, N. Christenscn, and A. Bullianß (secretary). It was decided to add the namos of Messrs W. C. Weston and 11. Dempiwy to the general committee. The secretary reported that several special prizes hud been donated, some of them being for particular events, ft* follows : Mr. F. W, G. MoLcod, for best decorated go-cart; Mr. S. Brooks, snivel medal for the'youth gaining tho highest aggregate points in athletic, cycling and swimming events; Mr. ,1. Bennett, a all: ver medal; Mr. R. Cattley, box offetndkerchiefs. It was .decided that. Mefprs, Smith, Mcllroy, Cattley and Bul!i*n» be a sub-committee to allocate', such! prizes as might be donated without any particular restriction, and also to deteimine what pri/.ea should be given for (he children's and .other events.
It. was reported that'in the swimming events the following items had' been arranged: 2ft yards-i races for boys <tnd iTirls respectively; jlisplitVs yf life-Having methods; schoolboys' championship of 100 yards or more; exhibition of foiwy diving and ""swimming by Messr* Schwartz and Ohristensen. Entries for these events will "bo received on th« grounds up till noon on the day of tht carnival. Other arrangement* in connection witt the carnival wcro considered, and final details fixed wherever possible. An attractive programme for th« daj and evening has been arranged. Tho proceedings will commonce at 11 a.m. wit! the, children's races. There will alsp be tho swimming and life-B&ving events. tugs-of-war, and all the features incidental to a day of unadulterated merrymaking, and at night a specially arranged concert will bo given. A strong committee of ladies has been formed, and tho stalls which they will control nave been allocated as follows) Ice creams, Mrs. H. ,T. Moverley j sweet*, fruit and bran tub, Mesdames Skelton atidS. G. Smith; soft drinks, Mesdames L. E. Hoffmann and Lawrenea; produce, Mesdames ,T. Harvey and P. W. G. MeLeod; afternoon tea, Mrs. C. Bullot. The doll competition was said to be creating a great deal of interest, and the children selling tickets for the doll of their particular choice were said to be very active in all directions,. A further meeting of tho general committee will-be held on Wednesday erasing next, at 8 o'clock.
