A correspondent of the Wangantti Herald writes:—To-day I purchased a packet wax vestas (matches) containing jix. tin boxes, which cost Is Od, equal to oil a box. Ihey seemed to be verv lightly packed, so mv book-keeper and myself counted the -~< i ; boxes separately. The boxes contained the following matches: 107, 134, 107, 140, 130, 127° Now, what 1 wish to bring under vour notice is the fact that these tin boxes of matches are supposed to contain 250 matches each. By purchasing a packet of six tins (these packets are sealed), they should contain 1500 mntcli'es, there£ore, in the six tins I received. 1 was 755 matches short. It is not tlie retail-, era who are supplying short numbers, as the packets are sealed. The=e tins are wiling at 3d each, and the poor man who buys them is not getting a fair ileal. Now that they are advanced in price, they are giving fewer matches I rang up another grocer and asked how many matches should be in a tin (a threepenny tin), and lie said 150. I thought it right to bring this under your notice. It is only a small thing, but as everything is going up in price, these small thiiiss must !}e watched.
