SOLDIERS SENTENCED
DISOBEDIENCE AND DESERTION. Camp Orders issued at Trentbam during the week-end contain the findings of District Court-martial held recently. The following have been sentenced to imprisonment for two years with hard labor for disobeying a lawful command given by a superior officer: Private J. R. Olley, Trentbam Details. Private J. F. Paterson, Trentbam Details. Private J. Saunders, Trentbam Details Private L. J. Woods, Trentham Details. Private J. S. Morris, Trentbam Details Private F. A. Moßae, Trentham Details (without hard labor). Private G. S. Carter, Trentham Details (late Thirty-second Reinforcements), found guilty, when on active service, of deserting His Majesty's Service, was sentenced to imprisonment, with hard labor for two years. The sentence is mitigated so that if the accused embarks for active service outside of New Zealand before the expiration of his sen- ! tence, then upon arrival at. the overseas base of the unit to which be is attached, the unexpired portion of his sentence (if any) shall be remitted, and his records shall be endorsed accordingly. Private 11, W. Lyman, Details (late Thirty-second Reinforcements), and Private D. K. Houston, Trentham Details (late Thirty-first Reinforcements), also found guilty of desertion, were sentenced to imprisonment with hard labor for six months, similar provision as in Carter's case being made as to the remission of the sentence in the event of accused embarking on active service. The following, for desertion, have been sentenced to imprisonment for 112 days, with hard labor: Private. T, Smith, Trentham Details (late Thirty-second Reinforcements). Private P. T.iohey, Trentham Details (late Thirty-second Reinforcements). Private .1. Magee, Trentbam Details (late Thirty-first Reinforcements). Private C. B. Murray, Trentham Details (late Thirty-second R#nforee ments). Corporal S. T. Smith, Trentham Details (late Thirty-first Reinforcements). In each case thy sentence is mitigated so that - if the accused embarks for active service outside New Zealand before the expiration of bis sentence, then on arrival at the overseas base of the unit to which he is attached the unexpired portion of his sentence (if any) shall be remitted and his records shall fee endorsed accordingly ,
