LLOYD GEORGE ON GRUMBLERS

THE SPIRIT OF ENDURANCE OP OUR FIGHTING MEN. To the special Endurance number of the Teachers' World Mr. Lloyd George contributes the following striking pronouncement:— "There is no greater example of endurance than that of our men in the trendies or of our sailors on the seas. Our brave soldiers cheerfully endure every hardship of war in the most comfortless surroundings In the trendies. Our intrepid sailors never hesitate to go on voyages, whatever dangers may be lurking in the unseen deep from mine or submarine. ''lt is not the people who endure the greatest hardships and the greatest trials who grumble. Face to face with the most grim realities of life .nnd death, they forget minor inconveniences and smaller restraints, and those of 11s at home show a small appreciation of that splendid spirit of endurance if we give way to grumblings and complaints over the smaller things. "If it is not our lot to be called on cheerfully to make the supreme sacrifice in the field or on sea, it, is more .than ever incumbent on us to be cheerful amid the small restrictions necessarily imposed upon us by the circumstances of the war, but trivial and inr.ignificant in comparison with what is 1 endured by those who are fighting. "Every page of our history is rich with the sacrifice our forefathers made to win for us the freedom we noiv enjoy. Let us, on our part, show ourselves worthy of their great example, and determined to pass on to our children and our children's children this splendid heritage »f freedom, enriched and ennobled by our ell'orts and endurance." This Endurance number of the Touchers' World outlines a plan for n million boys and girls to write letters to soldiers and sailors.
