ENTERTAINMENTS.

MATINEE AT THE EMPIRE TO-DAY. ' "A MAGDALEN OF THE HILLS" The fine selection of pictures that have been screening at the Empire for the past two nights will again be on view at the matinee this afternoon, and for the last time to-night. The principle attraction is the Metro play "A Magdalen of the Hills," in which Mabel Taliaferro is the star. The story is told concisely and the action is rapid, the plot is extremely clever and the acting throughout, both of star and (supports, is good and convincing. The "Secret of the Submarine," episode Bine, is the best chapter so far of this exciting, picture, and the same can be said of the "Rex l Beach Travel Series" which this week deals in an interesting manner with the sugar growing country. There is a excruciatingly funny comedy Almost a Scandal'' and an interesting topical gazette on the programme. ANTONIO MORENO AT EVERYBODY'S AS THE "CAPTAIN OF THE GREY HORSE GUARD" "The Captain of the Grey Horse Troop." showing for the first time at Everybody's this afternoon and again to-itight, is sure of a very successful ran. It is just the type of picture the general picture-loving public revels in. iThc story is adapted from the novel by Hamlin Garland, and has been beautifully photographed by the Greater Vitagraph Company. The scene lies for the most part in the. Indian reservations. Where the remnant of a fast vanishing tribe of Indians endeavor to hold what little they have left of their goods and chattels against the greedy, hands of the white cattlemen. Their plight is a pitiful one when Captain Curtis, of the Grey Horse Guard, arrives on the scene with an order from Washington that, he is to take military control of the whole district. The position of the Indians earns his sympathy, and it is his resultant effort's to defend their rights, against the. cattlemen that makes the story so exciting. One of the cattlemen is murdered, and they storm the Indians' .village with the intention of lynching one of the Indians for the murder. Captain Curtis insist/? on justice, and is ably backed in this by his wonderful troop of Grey Horse Guards. He discovers the murderer of the cattleman, and takes him in custody to a city nearby. At night-time the infuriated cattlemen burst open the gaol and execute their sense of prompt justice on the offending Indian. The scene in the picture describing this incident is a weird and wonderful one. The film is powerfully acted, the cast being headed by Edith Story and Antonio Moreno. The loye story running through the picture liaft an ideal ending. A further instalment of "The Iron Claw" is included in the programme, and every foot of the film is crammed with sensation.
