A London cable reports that Captain Wm. Moore, son of Mr. Ernest Moore, of Auckland, has been killed in action, Colonel Hughes announces that he lias withdrawn liis candidature for the anticipated vacancy in the Wellington North constituency for medical reasons. Mrs. H. Willis has received word that her husband, Private H. Willis, who is returning invalided, will arrive in New Zealand shortly. Mrs. S. D. Pope, of Pungarehu, recently received word that her husband, Corporal S. D. Pope, who at the time of writing was at a convalescent camp at Torquay, is shortly returning to New Zealand Mrs. J. Groom, of lialiotu, has received word of the death in Egypt of her brother, Sergeant Hugh M. White. Sergt. White, who was well known in the Manaia and Mangatoki districts, left with the 6th Reinforcements (Mounted-s). He saw service at Gallipoli, and since then had been on active service in Egypt. Mr. W. J. Chanev has returned from Trentham, where ho has been visiting his son. Private W. S. Ohaney, who is in hospital. Mr. Clianey speaks in high terms of praise as to the hospital uccommodation as well as the attention at the camp. Mrs. M. Learv, of Leach Street, has received advice that her son, Sapper E. "Leary, is being invalided home. Sapper T.oary left with the 4th Reinforcements, S'uv service on Gallipoli, where he contracted pleurisy, and when convalescent returned to New Zealand. He left for the front again in January, lfllfi, and was wounded in the left, arm at the Sommo the following September, since when he has been under treatment, in England. | Mr. N. K. MacDiarmid, -who for (he last *2B years ha« been manager of the New Plymouth branch of the Bank of New South Wales, is about to retire. ITe joined the head office of the bank in Svrtnev on July 0, IS7I. and arrived in New Plymouth on July (!, 1880. He has I'eeii granted six months' leave of absence on full pay, and then retires on pension.
