ALLEGED arson. JURY FAIL TO AGllKfc By Telegraph.—Press Association. Gisborne, Last Night. At tlie Supreme Court, John Sherriff, Dods, who lias pleaded guilty to embezzling about £2OOO from the Gifibome Gas Company, was further charged with arson in allegedly setting the company's offices afire. The Crown suggested that the fire was started with the object of destroying the firm's books, which contained evidence as to the defalcation, to which Dods had confessed since the fire. After five hours' retirement the jury disagreed, and his Honor ordered a new trial for Monday.
