TWO BIG SPECIAL STARS AT ; EVERYBODY'S. GEORGE WALSH AND BESSIE ' BARRISCALE. Ho loves Peace so much that he fights fcr it! That is the character of Lash, Henley, the part taken by George Walsh In his new William Fox photopfay, "The Mediator," 'shown for the first time at Everybody's last night The picture tells a Western fctory that is different, and it tells it in an original manner. Juanita Hansen, favorite of millions of movie fans, plays opposite Mr. Walsh. Lash starts his adventures by shooting and wounding the bully of the place where ho lives. Then he is so sorry for him that he sciuls flowers to the hospital. Later, Lash hears of a town called Peaceful Hill, and he knows it's the place for him. On his journey to the new home he meets with a bunch of strikers. The turmoil of the mining town troubles him, and .lie ends the strike by Ibeating the leader. Then follows a series of encounters between Lash and the leader, in all of which the Mediator's' prevailing motive is to keep the peace, When lie has licked everybody in the neighborhood, he finds the quiet he has sought. He finds something else, too. It is Maggie, the waitress, who had helped him in his schemes. If is a sterling good picture and is supported by an equally good Triangle feature, "Bnwbs o' Blue Ridge," in which Bessie Barriseale adds another big success to her long list of special feature characterisations. The two fine star films will bo screened again for the last time to-night. A SPLENDID PROGRAMME AT THE EMPIRE. MABEL TALIAFERRO IN "A MAGDALEN OF THE HILLS." The new programme screened at the Empire last evening is headed by a splendid Metro play "A Magdalen of the Hills," starring Mabel Taliaferro. Besides being powerfully acted, the play has splendid scenic settings, in fact the picture is oTTb 61 fYie ll'nest features of the year. There i, a strong side light of interest iii the picture, Grayson, a wealthy New Yorker has large timber holdings in the wooded mountainous district of a southern State. He will not have schooTs in the mountains, preferring to profit by the ignorance of the inhabitants. His' policy leads to bitter feeling and finally a tragedy, and the .auestiori arises as Bow far a large landholder and employer is justified in neglecting those working under him. The mountain girl—a wild flower of the hills, is dragged into the tragical happenings that ensue, the child of the open air who knew only primitive emotions is fired with a wild thirst for vengeance that is only quenched by the cup of true love. . Mabel Taliaferro is appealingly human in the part and acts her dramatic scenes with much power. The touch of natural refinement, in spite of her rough surroundings is cleverly done. Thft supporting programme is especially good, including the ninth episode of the "Secret of the Submarine," and a further instalment of the "Rex Beach Travel Series."
