AMERICA'S PREPAREDNESS FOR WAR.
A REMARKABLE RECORD. Mr. Hovle, late Minister for Railways in New South Wales, has just returned from a visit to America. Speaking of America's preparedness for war, Mr. •Hoylc said that the whole, nation is a beehive of industry, arid np one who has not been through the States can realise to what' extent the people have gone into the question of war. At every factory, shipyard, aeroplane factory, and, in fact, works of every description, ii hours a day are occupied in turning out material to supply the needs of the American soldiers ami those_ of the Allies. The 'Construction and assembling of aeroplanes has developed to a phenomenal degree. I saw flying machines put together minutes, and though that is easily a record, I was assured that within a few months machines will he assembled ready for the air in five minutes. Thousands of young men aro being trained to fight in the air, and-it will not be long before an army of 3000 aviators is ready for action. Once that armv is ready, the organisation will have Seen perfected to Mich an extent that 3000 men and machines will be turned out ready for service every seven days. j Mr. Hoyle also p'ointed out that shipbuilding and ship repairing were proceeding at record pace. Engineers were doing in a month work which the enemy estimated would require in a year.
