MINERS'S FEDERATION.
PROTEST AGAINST HON. RUSSELL'S : STATEMENT. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Dee. 0, The conference of the Miners' Federation passed a resolution protesting against Hon. O. W. Russell's assertion that not one of the New Zealand unions agrees with the policy of the Australian Workers' L'nion in refusing to allow its members to leave for New Zealand, and stating that not only Js the New Zealand Miners' Federation in sympathy with that policy, but the Wellington Trades Council has issued a manifesto denouncing the attempts of the New Zealland Government to got Australian labor in place of New Zealand labor eon scripted. Mr. Rrissell, to whom the resolution was submitted, said he thought the statements made did not reflect the general opinion of the workers of New Zealand or the intelligent section of the member* of the Miners' Federation. -A number of miners ha,d already joined the forces and done splendid work at the front in; connection with the tunnelling corp*l
