SLY-GROG SELLING.
Auckland, Dec 4. The first prosecution of sly grog-sell-ing since tlie early closing of liotc] bars came iiito ! .forco was hoard to-day, when seven charges of having sold liquor-with-out b°ing licensed were preferred against a middlo-Q.'jeil man named Oorge F.l'herlie. Accused pleaded guilty on all the charges—five in respect of offences committed on Sunday and two in respect to offences after G p.m. on Monday. Accused accosted a constable in the street on Sunday and- supplied him with beer from his private house. Sentences wtc imposed of three and six months' imprisonment to run concurrently. The Magistrate said he expected a crop of such cases would follow the inauguration af six o'clock closing.
