From Our Own Correspondent. Tnglewood, Dec. & One of Tnglewood's pioneer business men, _in tlie person of Mr. E. Viekers, passed away at Hobart yesterday. He had been on holiday for some time, and news was received yesterday he was dangerously ill, but a later message advised that he was dead The swimming baths are to be opened to-morrow (Thursday), and a splendid programme has been arranged, including some fancy costume items and fancy swimming. Mr. Gallagher, of New Plymouth, has been appointed caretaker, and everything promises for a successful season. The secretary of the Patriotic Society has just forwarded to the Minister of Internal Affairs, to lie cabled direct to the boys at the front, the sum of £2-58 Is Od, The amount is made up of -the proceeds of the Scotch Day, Mrs. Hawkins' concert, and the Norfolk Road contributions, being £l5O Is Od, £BS 10s i)d, and £lO Os Id respectively.
