When Queen Mary was in Melbourne in }9Ol she visited the WomVn's Hospital at Carlton, and was photographed with a baby in her arms. The baby is now Private J. A. He enlisted when he was. 141, giving his age as 18, and came ncratchless through the terrible fighting at Bullecourt and other engagements. Recently Wharton sent a cutting with the photograph mentioned from the Melbourne Herald fo the Queen, and was immediately invited to Buckingham Palace. He spent yesterday there, and dined with their Majesties. The Queen mothered him, and personally showed him over thp palace. Their Majesties were enthusiastic regarding Australia, and expressed admiration for her fighters. The incident revealed Wharton's age, and it is probable tjjat he will not bo sent back to the front.
