MABEL TALIAFERRO AT' EMPIRE. .' "A MAGDALEN OF THE B{LLS." The gifted Metro star, Mabel Taliaferro, will ibe featured at the Empire theatre to-night in the latest Metro wonderplay, "Magdalen of the Hills," claimed by this favorite actress to lie her best picture to date. Summed up very briefly the story is as follows:—A pretty girl of the mountains makes a vow -with her father to kill a wealthy New Yorker or any member of his family on account Of the death of her brother, who was suspected of destroying the Tich man's property. A young Jawyer, a nephew r/t the New Yorker, visits the mountain section. She tries to kill him. He repays her with kindness and her hatred Is replaced by love. The nephew returns (0 New York and the girl's father tried to marry her to a young fellow of the mountains. She leaves her home and in hrt- wanderings kills 1 } a rough character who insults her. Sfte is arrested and is tried for murder. The man she lqves feems to have deserted her, but ho has been ill in New York. However, he hears <if the murder and returns in time to take her case and win an acquittal, an 4 Incidentally win her for a wife. It is a powerful stdrv of love, wealth and bravery set amid some of the most beautiful Kenes imaginable. There is a ftnc sup, porting programme including the ninth episode qf the "Secret of the Submarine," a "Weekly Topical," a further instalment of the "Rex Beach Travel Series," and a humorous comedy entitled 'Almost ft Scandal."
OEORQE WALSH IX A NOTED FOX PICTURE, "THE MEDIATOR." ' TO-NIGHT. <i'eorge Walsh lias the lead in a Western drama that is different, "The Mediator," which will be shown at Every-to-night and to-morrow. T'Mb picture is a William Fox production, and features Juanita Hansen in the leading feminine role. The Mediator, is a man fi'ho loves Pence so much that he is continually fighting for it. He meets all forts of difficulties in his efforts to find 'A law-abiding home; and he is forced to fight village bullies everywhere he goes. But he finally wins quiet, and a bride. On the same programme Bessie Barris/ale stars in a Triangle feature of exquisite charm and sweetness entitled "Bawlis q' Blue Ridge." A dainty maiden who has ibe£n brought up in total innocence of all That life means is the central figure of "Bawbs o' Blue Ridge." The role is taken by Bessie Barriscale, f'liose shapely form is quite easily discoverable in the quaint garment of rags and tatters that she wears in her wanderings on the mountain side.
