REV. HOWARD ELLIOTT.

SUPPORTED BY IN'VEBCARGIU. MEETING • / By Telegraph,—i Press Association. Invcreargill, Last Night. The large theatre in Invcreargill was unable to hold the crowd assembled to hear the Rev. Howard Elliott, national lecturer of the Protestant Political Association. The lecturer received a magnificent hearing, being cheered to the echo. The following resolutions were carried without a dissentient voice; "That this meeting, having heard the statement of the Rev. Howard Elliott respecting his action in the recent assault ease, expresses confidence in him as their lecturer, and pledges itself to further the interest of the Protestant Political Association." "That this meeting of ProI teßtants of Invercargill expresses it? satisfaction that the attempt to seciire legislative exemption from military service of the priest 9 and Marist Brothers was defeated fey the Legislative Council. We extend our appreciation of their action in resolutely refusing to sanction such an TflijustiflabOc oxomption, and call upon- the Government to impartially administer that Act which was designed and passed to secure equality of service and sacrifice from all sections of the community. This meeting emphatically declared that any attempt to do by regulation what legislation has denied will be strongly resented."
