INGLEWOOD.

(I'rom Our Own Corresponent.). Inglewood, Dee. 1. There was a very large attendance at Air. Dean's clearing sale, on Friday. Buyers were present from all parts' of the district, and the sale was quite a record, as far as prices are concerned, for the district. Mr. Fairbrother wielded the hammer, and had not long to wait for bids. The cows, which were an ideal lot, but not a pedigree animal in the yard, averaged £lB 4s, which must be considered highly satisfactory, considermg that the calves were sold separateh' and brought .-£1 lfis per head, and there hiwe also been { some very good cheques taken this season, as some of the cows have been in milk for nearly 3 months. The horses also sold at very good prices, averaging between £3O and £4O. The above prices prove that the man who believes in keeping the best is bound to come out on the right side. Mr. Dean's motto has always been "The best is the cheapest," and he must be more than ever satisfied that he is.'correct. The baths are to bo opened for the season on Thursday next, and a busy div is anticipated. Three prominent j swimmers arc coming out from New l'lyJ mouth to give an exhibition-of fancy • swimming, etc., and the local swimming club will be well represented.

Mr. Walker, lion, instructor .of the Life-saving Society,,paid a round of visits to the schools of Uie district, on, Friday, and gave a dry demonstration of life-saving, etc. 'Mr. Walker took about a hundred pupils of the local school, and explained the methods, and then took about 20 of the elder pupils.and got them to go through the exercises hr> had explained, and the children proved that they had been most observant by the manner in which they performed.'
