GENERAL
The. report of the chairman and Mr. Trimble regarding the appointment of a truant officer, and the schedule of duties, was received and adopted. Applications will be invited for the position. , It was resolved to send a letter of thanks Mr. R. Hill and his Btaff for the help iu connection with the Tahora school. 1
The action of the Awatuna, Turoto and Turoto South committees in closing their schools on account of epidemics, was confirmed. ' '
The following resignations were accepted: Miss A. M. Porter, sole teacher, Ivorito; Miss A. J. Mackay, sole teacher. Punilio.
The board's vote in connection with the election of, a representative on the committee of advice of the Wellington : Training College, will be given in fa\:or of Hon. Gilbert Carson.
Mr. Geo. J. Clegg, on behalf of nine settlers, representing 23 children, asked the board to establish a school on the Arawhata road, Oaonui.—Referred to the senior inspector.
The matter of the apportionment pf the school site at Hawera, was held over till next meeting. Other matters at Hawera were referred to the overseer. A committee consisting of the chairman, Messrs Dixon and Wilkinson, was set up to make further representations to the Normanby Town Board, with the object of securing as an addition to the school site the street running between the two school sections.
Messrs S. G. Smith and P. J. H. White recommended that in view of np suitable area being available under conditions which the board would be prepared to finance, no action be taken at present in regard to land for use of proposed agricultural class for women.—Received.
