OBITUARY.
SIR STARR JAMESON. Reuter Service. Received Nov. 27, 5.5 p.m. London, Nov. 20. Sir Starr Jameson is dead. : [Sir Starr Jameson, P.C., C.8., was born at Edinburgh in February, 1853, and was educated at the London University, taking the degree of M.D. in 1877. He is best known in connection with his career in South Africa, being Administrator of Rhodesia, British South Africa, 1891-05. In December, 1895, \he led a raid on the Transvaal, fighting a battle at Krugersdorp in the following month, but surrendering to the Boers the next day. He was tried in London, and sentenced to ten months' imprisonment, being released, owing to illness, after serving seven months of the sentence. He served in South Africa 1599-1900, and was elected a member of the Cape Assembly, bccom- , ing Premier of Cape Colony in 1904. He Uvas created a baronet in 1911, having previously received the honors of C.B. and P.C. He retired from active politics in 1912, being elected president of the British South Africa Co. in the followinc Iyear.]
