QUESTION OP REWARD. It will bo remembered that a du or two after the recent murder on the' West Coast the Government offered a reward"of £6OO to anyone providing information that would lead' to the arrest of the culprit. Since the arrest of feggers tlswe has been considerable discussion amongst the t public as to how the reward will be apportioned if the accused man is found guilty of the crime. The general opinion jippaara to be that the detective con- ■ ccrne'd in the matter 'will receive noth- : ing, owing to the fact that they fire. ■ Government servant#, and that their duty is the apprehending of offenders ' . against the law. -From inquiries made by a Christchurch Press representative, the fact that the detectives are Government servants has nothing to jdo with matter, and should the accused prove to be the guilty man they will be entitled td> their share of the reward, together with all those who were directly concerned with tile arrest. When the case has been finally dealt with a report will be forwarded to the Commissioner of Police, who will toaye the "Anal-word la abortion ing the reward.
